I had been looking forward to photographing Stephen and Michelle’s wedding at the Clifton Arms Hotel ever since I met them at a wedding the previous year. I’m normally very looky with the weather, but on this day it ran out as Storm Callum hit us with 50mph winds and plenty of rain. I always tell couples that weather does not influence whether or not you have a great day. Yes, sunshine is lovely, but If you embrace the weather and roll with it, you will have a super day because as we know it is the people that really make a wedding great!
After the groom and bride prep, we headed off to St Nicholas’ Church in Wrea green. For me, the photos of people with brollies blowing about and everyone sheltering from the rain and wind are some of the best ones, and I think the monochrome confetti shot is probably my favourite from the day.
Then it was back to The Clifton Arms Hotel for the drinks reception. Everyone was in great spirits, and after some formal group photos, Stephen and Michelle decided to head out and brave it in the storm while the rain had eased. As I like to do with couples, we just went for a walk and I captured lots of natural portraits which in such conditions is quite testing even for a professional.
After 10 minutes we were done, so it was back to the Clifton Arms for the wedding breakfast. The wedding singer welcomed the couple into the room, and lots of singing and dancing started off the party which carried on well into the night. A brilliant couple, it was a real pleasure to photograph this wedding, and if you are considering getting married at the Clifton Arms Hotel, or you’re looking for a Lancashire wedding photographer for any of the other great venues the county has to offer, then drop me a message and I’ll look forward to having a chat.
