Matt and Helen’s wedding at Sandhole Oak Barn in Cheshire was a great day from beginning to end. I was recommended to the couple by my friend Dave who’s wife is the groom’s sister. This was the second wedding I have photographed at Sandhole Oak Barn, and knowing that it is such a stunning venue, I was really looking forward to this wedding. A few days before, the weather forecast was looking decidedly dodgy, but we lucked out with a gorgeous sunny day with blue skies. Both Matt and Helen got ready at the venue which I love. It means I can spend the morning moving between the two of them and really get a flavour of everything which is going on. Helen got ready with her sister and friends in the Old Granary which was lovely with lots of really nice light for photography. Makeup was by Lauren Shaw, hair by Jane Alexandra, and flowers by Flower design events. The ceremony room at Sandhole Oak Barn has gorgeous light from the large window, which not only creates a beautiful ambience for the wedding party but makes for some lovely pictures while the happy couple ties the knot. After signing the register, the confetti happened as the couple walk back down the aisle, and as you will see, Dave’s daughter the flower girl Isla made sure she got in on the action! The time between the ceremony and the wedding breakfast is my favourite part fo the day. The whole wedding part enjoying reception drinks and canapes outside congratulating the bride and groom and just generally having a great time. Being a documentary wedding photographer means that I like to let this period happen without my involvement. I just love capturing natural photos of the people enjoying themselves in wonderful surroundings. After some formal family photos, it was on to the wedding breakfast and speeches. The lighting can be quite tricky at Sandhole Oak Barn,l but I actually really like the strong contrasty conditions, to capture the speeches in a very natural way. The food was absolutely gorgeous, and the couple treated me to a full three-course meal which is always nice. After everyone had eaten, I headed outside for some couples portraits in the softer evening light. This is my favourite time of day to take these type of photographs as the light is warm and soft which adds a lovely quality to the images. There are loads of different places to take photos around the grounds at Sandhole, so we went for a walk which Helen and Matt enjoyed. Some photographers can’t wait to shoot off as soon as the first dance has happened, but for me, that is when the real fun is just beginning! They had a super band playing called The Rush who I highly recommend. Everyone was up on the dancefloor having a great time, and my aim is no different than the rest of the day, and that is to capture the flavour of the party in my photographs. I hope you enjoy looking through Matt and Helen’s wedding, and if you are getting married, and want a relaxed documentary wedding photographer, give me a call and I will be happy to chat about your big day!
